About Man O' War Nigeria
Man O’ War Nigeria was established by the Federal Government, through
the Citizenship and Leadership Training center as empowered by its
enabling ordinance as published in the extra-ordinary gazette no. 45 of
august 10 1960 as modified by decree no. 38 of December 1989.
It is a Federal Government Established Paramilitary organization with volunteer membership drawn from the Nigerian general public with cadet arms in schools and colleges all over the federation.
The structure is broken into National Command at Abuja, State Command, Area Command at the Local Government levels And Unit Command at the Wards. The enabling Ordinance effectively placed the establishments and running of the Man O’ War Nigeria under the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center Nigeria. A Parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Social Development.
The first Man O’ War started in the Southern Cameroon. The ex-course participants who attended various courses returned to their locations and began to get their friends together to do some of the activities they had enjoyed during their training by forming CLUBS which exist within the four walls of academic institutions under the guidance of school authority, and UNITS which is Community based under the guidance of the head Quarters Citizenship and Leadership Training Center.
Both Clubs/Units through their activities contribute positively to the development of their schools and the communities in which they are located hence as a result of the growing strength, popularity and acceptance of the organization in the society coupled with the large influx of youths into the organization the need to produce the a working document became necessary thus in early 1970 the center introduced the Man O War Handbook, which was reviewed in 80’s and by 1989 after the modification of the centers decree the center as a result of growing demand from the membership to set up central councils and groupings released the Constitution which was further revised in 2006 to give guidance towards stabilizing the new structures of the organization and help in programe content.
This new structures which came to aid coordination and administrations provided for a group of units in a local government to be formed into an area council, all Area council in the state to become the state’s council while the group of clubs in schools and colleges are formed into national Union of Man O War Clubs in Higher Institutions of Nigeria (NUMOCHIN)
Upon the stabilization of all structures, the need of national command to harmonize and efforts, operations and activities became imminent. This triggers the re-organizations of Man O’ War in June 2005 and climaxed in October 2009 at Keffi where the first national command was inaugurated by the Director General Amb. Yusuf Adamu and Col Ocher rtd was appointed as the National Commander of Man O’ War Nigeria This reorganization brought about the suspension of the CONSTITUTION to be replaced by a CODE OF CONDUCT.
